PUPPIES AND BIG DOGS

People always ask about allowing their puppies to play with their older dogs. Generally speaking, I am against it.

I believe that your puppy - who, of course, will grow to become a dog - must believe that the world begins and ends with you. That all things fun and wonderful flow from you. Accordingly, I do not like to have my puppy play with the older dogs.

Cha Cha has spent three weeks at Chez Shih. We have been virtually inseparable. She is very responsive to my moods and voice inflections. We are bonded.

During this time, I have neglected by two older dogs - Buzz and Sparky. To rectify that, I have started taking morning walks with all three dogs. This gives some chance for Cha Cha to interact - mostly pester - older dogs.

I also drive to the park where we walk in my chassis mount dog truck - and not the Expedition that Cha Cha and I typically take on our trips.

Cha Cha gets in a dog hole next to Buzz and Sparky. She does not ride in the cab in her puppy crate. Again, the reason is to expose Cha Cha to as many different experiences as possible.

Remember, I keep her time with the big dogs to a minimum. I want me to be the focus of her life.
