North Texas Amateur Land Marks

All birds were hen pheasants.

First bird is the middle bird. Thrown right to left. It landed just to the left of the second tree to the left of the middle gun. The line to the bird carries the dog up over a dike and into a pond. Distance to the long bird is 310 yards.

Second bird is the left hand bird. That bird is also thrown right to left and lands to the left of the tree. The line to that bird carries the dog into another pond. Distance to that bird is 200 yards.

Here is a closer view of the two retired guns.

Here is a still closer view of the two retired guns

Third bird is flyer on the right. Thrown with the wind. Distance to that bird is 120 yards.

The bird was almost behind the line on the right. (If you were sitting at the center of the clock, the flyers would be at 4 o'clock)

Some dogs hunted the flyer hard, which made the two retired birds almost impossible.
Most dogs got the left bird, although some hunted it hard. Some dogs cheated the water and hunted here and there.
But the money bird was the long bird.

Some dogs would take off on a perfect line to the bird. Hit the dam and break down. Hunt back and forth and eventually end up in the left hand bird. Or get handled to the bird. (Mootsie did this)

A very few would drive the water and reach the far bank. Those that did eventually got the bird. (Ace did this)

Some dogs would cheat the water and run the dike between the holding blind for the left gun station and the pond on the right. Those that did frequently drove into the left hand bird.

Some dogs would drive on the fairway to the left of the retired gun towards a tractor in the background, then break down. Others would work it out.
Some dogs went left of that fairway into yet another pond. Some figured it out from there, others did not.

Some dogs decided for some unknown reason to drive the hill to the left of the left retired bird and keep climbing (Zowie did this)

It made for interesting viewing.
